Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik presided over the launch ceremony of Sultan Haitham City held at Al Baraka Palace on Wednesday.
Upon arrival at the launch ceremony hall, His Majesty the Sultan was received by Dr Khalfan bin Said al Shu’aili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning.
During the ceremony, His Majesty witnessed a descriptive account of the smart and futuristic city. The presentation showcased a model of the city, which will be developed in the wilayat of Seeb.
Sultan Haitham City represents a new model for development of sustainable cities, and fulfilling the aspirations of Oman’s youth.
His Majesty the Sultan took note of the remarkable facilities within Sultan Haitham City. He viewed display panels outlining a diverse range of structures, including prototypes of residences that harmoniously blend with a modern setting, while epitomising the cultural heritage of the country.
Furthermore, His Majesty the Sultan was briefed on the brand identity and message of Sultan Haitham City, billed as ‘Treasure the Future’. This brand identity reflects a visionary approach to building a unique and dazzling city in the sultanate. The logo of the city draws inspiration from the purity of nature, accentuated by golden flourishes symbolising luxury and power.
A visual presentation on the model of the city’s masterplan, residential quarters, facilities and amenities captivated His Majesty’s attention. The presentation included details of the various structures within the city, such as schools, hospitals and mosques.
To conclude the ceremony, His Majesty the Sultan perused a book describing the project of Sultan Haitham City, which is set to become an icon for smart cities. The event was attended by members of the Royal family and high-ranking officials.
During the ceremony, His Majesty the Sultan affirmed that what he has seen of the modern planning of the city is heartening. His Majesty saw it as the foundation for future initiatives, and congratulated the talented young minds of Oman, including designers and thinkers, and encouraged them to make their mark in every corner of the sultanate.
His Majesty regarded this occasion as just the beginning of a series of visionary developments, as more cities will emerge, keeping pace with the ever-evolving world.
