Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) on Thursday released an online guide for museums as it celebrated the International Museum Day, which falls on May 18 every year.
‘The online guide includes information and data related to Oman’s museums, in addition to the requirements and criteria for establishing a private museum or heritage house, a list of licensed private museums and heritage houses and their specialisations.’
The online guide called ‘Directory of Museums and Private Heritage Houses in Oman’ aims to display many holdings, antiquities and treasures of national heritage. It also seeks to preserve this heritage so that the future generation can know about Oman’s history and culture.
According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), over 115,000 people visited museums in 2021, an eight per cent increase compared to the visitors in 2020.
Oman has many popular museums such as the National Museum, the Children’s Museum, the Al Saidiya School Museum of Education, and Oman Across Ages Museum among others.
