Muscat – H H Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, received in his office at Al Murtafaa Garrison on Monday Maj Gen Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The two sides reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on several matters of common interest.
The meeting was attended by Vice-Admiral Abdullah Khamis al Raisi, Chief of Staff of Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF), the Iranian Ambassador to Oman and the Military Attaché at the Iranian Embassy in Muscat.
Maj Gen Bagheri and his military delegation arrived in the country on Sunday evening on an official visit lasting several days.
Upon his arrival at Seeb Air Base, the Iranian general was received by Vice-Admiral Raisi. Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that Maj Gen Bagheri’s visit will focus on promoting peace, cooperation and security in the region.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Oman, the Iranian general said an opportunity has come for expansion of cooperation between the Iranian and Omani armed forces.
The main topic during talks with Omani authorities will be regional issues and ways to promote peace, cooperation and security across the region, he stated.“This visit will definitely have significant effect on the enhancement of cooperation and advancement of peace and friendship in the region.”
