Muscat – The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MoHUP) is offering seven plots of land for investment to boost the fisheries sector.
An official at MoHUP said, “The ministry has floated tenders for those wishing to invest in the fisheries sector. It is offering investment opportunities in seven plots for fishery products in four governorates.”
Of the seven, two sites are in Dhofar to set up fish collection centres in Hadbeen and Sadah.
Two sites – in the Siya area of the wilayat of Bahla in Dakhliyah and another in the wilayat of Buraimi – will see the establishment and operations of fish markets.
According the official, bids are also invited to set up fish collection centres in the Al Saqla and Al Juwairiya areas of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, and the wilayat of Sur in South Sharqiyah.
“Bidders must submit an integrated plan for the management and operation of these investment projects and their associated activities,” the official said.
“This initiative aims to create job opportunities for Omanis, increase production of a wide variety of fish and enhance food security. It also aims to increase the contribution of fisheries to the GDP and transfer modern technologies to the fisheries sector to enhance fisheries investment in the sultanate,” he added.
