Muscat – Poet Aisha al Saifi was crowned winner of the reality TV show Prince of Poets in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

The show was created in April 2007 by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage and is aired live every week.

Aisha took home AED1mn, a symbolic cloak and a ring for her win. She is the first Omani poet to reach the finals of the programme and also win. She was born in Nizwa, Dakhliyah and is the author of three collections of poetry, including The Sea Changes its Gown. She is also the first female poet to win the Omani Poetry Festival.

“On International Women’s Day, I was crowned princess of poets and draped in the cloak of poetry – the first Arab woman to be bestowed with the title – thanks to God, and your support for me by voting for me and your prayers,” she posted on Instagram.
