CAA works to expand Oman’s airspace; Sayyid Fahd receives ICAO chief

Muscat – H H Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud a Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, received Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary-General of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), on Tuesday.

The ICAO chief and his accompanying delegation are currently visiting the sultanate to attend the 2nd Civil Aviation Legal Advisers Forum (CALAF/ 2) being held in Muscat from Feb 21 to 23.

After welcoming the guest and his accompanying delegation, H H Sayyid Fahd affirmed that establishment of modern airports is counted among the major achievements of Oman as these constitute a link to the world.

He pointed out that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has placed a project for expansion of Oman’s airspace among its top priorities. In coordination with the concerned departments in the country, CAA has begun taking approvals for the project which is subject to ICAO approval on airspace sovereignty according to the Chicago Convention.

H H Sayyid Fahd underscored the importance of Oman hosting CALAF/2 as a way to explore the best options of supporting air transport. He also commended ICAO’s role in ensuring security and safety of passengers and global aviation traffic.

On his turn, Salazar expressed his appreciation and that of his accompanying delegation of Oman’s comprehensive renaissance covering many fields. He also lauded Oman’s international airports and ports operating with the latest technologies set to global standards.

Salazar pointed out that the forum will contribute in reaching many positive outcomes serving international air transport traffic.

Meeting with Slovak Deputy PM

In a separate meeting, H H Sayyid Fahd received Stefan Holly, Deputy Prime Minister for Legislation and Strategic Planning in the Slovak Republic.

After welcoming the guest and his accompanying delegation, H H Sayyid Fahd reviewed the existing relations between the two countries.

Holly conveyed greetings and best wishes of the Slovak leadership to the leadership in the Oman, wishing the Omani people further progress. He expressed his country’s interest in promoting relations with the sultanate in various spheres.
