Muscat – The eighth edition of International Sculpture Camp will be held from February 10 to 18 in Wadi al Jizzi, Sohar, in an effort to promote arts and support tourism in the sultanate. This edition of the camp will see participation of 24 sculptors from 11 countries.
It has been organised by the Governor’s Office of North Batinah, Office of the Wali of Sohar and Sohar Municipality.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Dr Ali al Jabri, camp supervisor, said, “The 24 sculptors include two Omanis. The other participants are from Russia, the US, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Egypt, Kuwait, the UAE, Morocco, Tunisia, Syria, Lebanon and Sudan.”
The camp will be a chance for sculptors to exchange knowledge and expertise in the fields of marble, stone and wood sculpting, Jabri added.
The camp will be held under the theme of sustainability in line with Oman’s declaration of the Year 2050 as the target to achieve zero carbon neutrality.
The camp will also include a symposium titled ‘A Decade of Sculpture’, which will be attended by writers, critics and academics from the sultanate and abroad. Other activities on the agenda are cultural and artists events, and workshops on digital modelling and woodworking.
“We will also organise a trip to mountain villages in Sohar for the participating sculptors to enjoy the tourist sites there,” Ali said.
According to Ali, the camp aims to develop creative industries in line with Oman Vision 2040.
