Muscat – Seven children and a woman were injured as a result of a technical defect in one of the rides at the amusement park at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) on Tuesday night.

In a statement, the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority said, ‘The accident resulted in light to moderate injury of seven children and a woman.’

Issuing a statement on the matter, the Muscat Municipality, said, ‘The number of people affected by the technical defect that occurred in one of the rides at OCEC is eight. Praise be to Allah, most of the cases have returned home. We are monitoring the health status of the two who have been referred for further examinations. Muscat Municipality and the authorities in charge are following up the procedures.’

It added, ‘We affirm our concern for the safety of everyone – young and old – and our seriousness in following all approved standards.’

The civic authority urged people to seek information from official sources and not to spread rumours.
