Muscat – Three expatriate workers have been arrested for using illegal fishing equipment in Al Wusta.

In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) informed that the fisheries control team in the governorate seized two boats and arrested three expatriates in the wilayat of Duqm who were using prohibited fishing equipment.

The ministry also stated that its fisheries control team in Dhofar seized 1,036kg of lobster on January 21, which were caught outside the season.

Legal action has been taken against the violators, the MAFWR statement added.

MAFWR regularly monitors fishing sites across the sultanate in cooperation with relevant authorities, including the Coast Guard of Royal Oman Police, Royal Oman Navy, Maritime Security Centre and Ministry of Labour.
