Muscat – H E Salim bin Mohammed bin Said al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, issued a ministerial decision (No 334/2023) on Sunday, determining the fees to visit castles and forts, visitor centers, and world heritage sites in Oman.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) is currently working to hand over the management of many historical sites to the private sector to attract tourists and to achieve the strategic goals of Oman Vision 2040.
The decision states that official government delegations and school trips organised by educational institutions are exempted from paying the fees.
The ministry has divided the historical monuments into two classes or categories, to determine the visitation fees. The Class 1 category refers to the forts and castles, which have unique historical and cultural elements, while the Class 2 are ordinary historical sites or visitor centres.
The decision was issued on December 26 and comes into force on the day following its publication in the official gazette.
