Muscat – H E Sayyid Badr al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, took part in a two-day Voice of Global South Summit hosted by India on January 12 and 13.
The summit was held in virtual format, with ten sessions in total. It saw the participation of leaders and ministers from 125 countries of the Global South.
H E Sayyid Badr took part in the Foreign Minister’s Session on Priorities of the Global South.
In his speech, H E Sayyid Badr stressed on the importance of international cooperation to ensure social justice and the well-being of all. He called for an exchange of views on best practices on important issues such as food and water security, development cooperation, and prioritising the needs of the most vulnerable groups in society.
Foreign Ministers from other participating countries expressed concern over the increasing fragmentation of the international landscape and exchanged perspectives on creating a conducive environment for the development priorities of the Global South. Ministers urged the international community to address the triple challenge of food, fuel, and fertiliser shortages.
They also called for renewed and inclusive multilateralism that reflects contemporary realities. The need to raise their collective voice against terrorism was also underlined.
