Sayyid Bilarab to inaugurate Liwa model city today

Muscat – As part of the celebrations marking the 52nd National Day, H H Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham al Said will preside over a ceremony marking the opening of Liwa Model Residential City.

The city, located close to Al Batinah Expressway and covering an area of 12mn sqm, has been built to accommodate 30,000 residents. It boasts of a broad range of services and facilities, including 1,300 housing units and around 3,400 single and double residential units. The city is designed to cater to 50,000 residents and visitors in the future.

The project in the Naber area includes government schools, places of worship, a health centre, power generation stations, two fuel stations, parks, playgrounds and land for commercial establishments including malls.

Carried out by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, the city constitutes a comprehensive model for sustainable cities. Its development is based on interactive participation among the government departments concerned and public service providers. It witnessed direct participation from society in all its stages of planning and design.

H E Dr Khalfan bin Said al Shuaili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, affirmed that the new city is a model city with integrated facilities and services, and constitutes an example for implementing sustainable and modern urban planning policies.

He added that the city fulfils the goals and requirements of the urban strategy of Oman.
