Muscat – A diving team of Oman installed a 500kg installation bearing the images of the two sultans in the seabed off the Quriyat coast on Saturday as a mark of their tribute to the two leaders on the occasion of the 52nd National Day.
Expressing their love for Oman and paying rich tributes to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and to the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, 25 divers of the Quriyat Diving Team took great pain to deploy the 500kg piece in two hours.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Juma Khamis al Amri, head of the Quriyat Diving Team, said the divers dived into the water around Ras Abu Dawood in the wilayat of Quriyat to celebrate the 52nd National Day.
The event, conducted at a depth of 12m, was held from 1pm to 3pm, in cooperation with the Blue Water Company, Omani Coast Guard, the Quriyat Municipality and the Quriyat Club, Amri informed.
The underwater installation of the images of the two sultans is 1m high and 2m wide.

The event was organised to recognise the support of the people of Quriyat and the volunteers, the team leaders said. “We expect the event to go a long way in promoting the tourism sites in Oman and popularising the sport of diving in the community.”
Moving the pieces was the biggest challenge because of their weight. “But with the cooperation of the participating parties, we were able to deploy them comfortably,” Amri said.
“The installation is made of environmentally friendly material, and will remain in that area forever to attract tourists and promote Omani tourism and coral reefs.”
Of future, Amri said, “The team will continue to spread awareness of the importance of preserving Omani beaches and promoting Omani tourism.”
