Muscat – Oman won first place in the secondary and middle stage categories in the 23rd Shikha Fadia al Saad al Subah scientific competition, held at Jaber Cultural Center in Kuwait City recently.
The winning project in the secondary category was ‘Studying the Effectiveness of Using Rice Water as Liquid Fertiliser on the Growth of Omani Lemons’ developed by Maria al Jabri and Qabas al Ghafri, from Sawda Um Al Mumineen School for Basic Education in Dhahira governorate. Their project was supervised by Fakhriya al Belushi.
In the middle stage category, ‘Strengthening the Greenhouse System’ project developed by Amna al Jahafi and Shahad al Jahafi, from the AlJaza’ School for Basic Education in North Sharqiya, won the first prize. The project was supervised by Maheera al Jahafi.
Expressing her joy on winning the first place, Qabas al Ghafri said, “It is a great honour for me to represent Oman in this competition and win the first place in the Arab world. Through my participation in this competition, I gained self-confidence and learned how to write scientific research paper accurately.”
Maria al Jabri said, “I am happy and proud that we were able to achieve this, especially with the increase in competition this year due to the participation of more Arab countries. I became well acquainted with the methodology of scientific research and how to conduct scientific experiments.”
Participation in the competition added ‘a lot to experience’ of Shahd al Jahafi as they were “ambassadors of our country competing among the best students from Arab countries.”
For Amna al Jahafi, “This competition gave me a lot of experience and information about how to work under a steam method, in addition to finding solutions to problems, while working in a team.”
