Muscat – VOX Cinemas has stopped screening films at five theatres across Muscat, Sur and Sohar.
Closure of theatres in Ruwi, Panorama Mall, Shatti Qurum, Sur and Sohar came at the end of a five-year agreement between VOX Cinemas and Jawad Sultan Group.
Speaking about the closure, an official of VOX Cinemas said, “These halls belong to City Cinema and were taken over by VOX five years ago. The contract is over and we have decided not to renew it. However, we do not want to disappoint people and so VOX Cinemas in City Centre Muscat and Qurum, Azaiba Mall, MGM and Mall of Oman are open.”
A senior Jawad Sultan Group official told Muscat Daily that several options are being considered. “Information will be provided soon.”
The closure of the halls has come as a blow to movie buffs. For many, VOX Cinemas Ruwi was an affordable venue for entertainment.
Aakash Kumar from India said, “Since my days of bachelorhood, when VOX Cinema Ruwi was Al Nasr Cinema, I was a regular. After getting married and becoming a father, I continued to watch movies in the hall regularly with friends and family. I have so many memories associated with the theatre. I hope the management decides to continue this gem of a place.”
