31 Oct 2022

Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) inaugurated its new headquarters in Al Khuwayr on Monday.

Spread over 13,000sqm, the new headquarters is located in the Ministries District in the premises earlier occupied by the Ministry of Civil Service.

Addressing the media at a press conference, H E Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said the new building will save about RO1.5mn annually, as the ministry had to rent buildings for its offices earlier. “The new building has been renovated to five floors and can accommodate 970 employees,” he informed.

The press meet was also attended by H E Dr Ali bin Amer al Shaidani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology, and H E Khamis bin Mohammed al Shamkhi, Undersecretary for Transport.

H E Maawali said, “The total cost of renovating the building – with parking for 750 vehicles, four annexes and a café, in addition upgrading IT facilities and air conditioning systems – amounted to RO3.9mn. The new headquarters has open offices to enhance communication between staff and allow ease of movement between different directorates and departments.”
