Muscat – Elections for various municipal councils in the sultanate will be held on December 25, the Ministry of Interior has announced, also confirming extension of the deadline for enrolment of eligible voters in the electoral rolls to November 10.

A statement issued by the ministry on Sunday said, ‘While voters in Oman will exercise their franchise on December 25 (Sunday), those residing outside Oman will cast their ballots on December 18.’

While extending the deadline to November 10 for inclusion of voters’ names in the electoral rolls, the ministry fixed the same date for transfer of voter-files from one wilayat to another.

The ministry urged citizens who were not previously registered in the Electoral Register to submit their applications as soon as possible on the official website – elections.om – created for the purpose. ‘Such citizens are advised to make sure that their national identity cards are supplied with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for electronic authentication,’ the ministry statement added.

The ministry advised voters wishing to transfer their names from one wilayat to another to submit their applications via the aforesaid website, according to their current permanent addresses.
