Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has invited bids for the restoration and reconstruction of heritage sites as part of its efforts to protect their distinct architecture.
An official of the ministry said that tenders have been floated for the reconstruction of Al Bait al Gharbi in the village of Qasra, wilayat of Rustaq in South Batinah governorate, and restoration of Sadah Castle, wilayat of Sadah in Dhofar.
According to the official, this is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to restore and maintain heritage sites that have the potential to support the national economy.
The deadline for submission of tenders is December 7.
Al Bait al Gharbi is a tourist and cultural destination. It houses numerous antique collections, including rare books, coins, traditional cooking utensils, handicrafts, women’s cosmetic items, incense burners, silverware, pottery, mandoos boxes, and equipment used for processing dairy products.
Sadah Castle dates back to the era of Sultan Taimour bin Faisal al Busaidi. The ground floor of the castle has three rooms, including a kitchen that contains antique pottery and imported porcelain.
The castle is considered an archaeological landmark for its traditional Omani style and unique architecture. The castle stood as fortification to protect the coast of Dhofar.
