OAA reveals calendar of motorsport events, races

Muscat – The Oman Automobile Association (OAA) on Tuesday revealed its calendar of events for November to March season.

A host of motorsport events, including the 5th edition of the Oman International Drift Championship (January-February), Oman Rally Championship (December- March), Oman International Rally (January), are lined up for the new season.

The events will take place at the OAA venue in Seeb with an aim to encourage people join motorsports. ‘The calendar has a mixture of challenges in drift, rally, gymkhana, karting, digital motorsports and more, that cater to the interests of our customers and the public,” Sulaiman al Rawahi, general manager of OAA said.

The details were announced at a press conference at OAA, during which Rawahi said, “Our drift events have become very popular, with an increasing number of contestants competing in ‘freestyle drift’ and ‘Oman drift’ rounds as well as the crowd-pleasing Red Bull Car Park Drift.”

The Oman International Rally will welcome drivers from all over the Middle East and North Africa.

“Our karting department organises and manages a number of challenges throughout the season including sprint and endurance races, Rotax Max challenges. We will be holding the MENA Karting Championship Nations Cup (December 13-17) for the third time in a row in the country.”

In addition to all local and international events, OAA will also organise an all-ladies gymkhana competition this season to showcase their talents and encourage them to be more involved in motorsport.

People can also take part in remote-control racing tournament at OAA’s Muscat Racing Circuit. There will also be bike and car shows with and special arrangements will be made for screening of the FIFA Football World Cup to be played in Qatar.
