Muscat – The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) has issued a decision amending regulations on organising and managing meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE).
Decision No 527/2022 modifies regulations to make it easier for companies engaged in the MICE sector.
The decision introduces new categories of exhibitions – virtual exhibitions, exhibitions of products from industries based in the GCC, and specialised exhibitions.
The decision stipulates conditions for licences to organise exhibitions, including minimum staff strength of two employees, one of who must be an Omani administrative manager. The Omani employee should also be registered with the Public Authority for Social Insurance.
The decision also stipulates that the licence holder must have fixed headquarters, a bank account, and must pay the prescribed fees to the ministry.
According to an official in MoCIIP, the decision aims to facilitate the registration of companies organising exhibitions and conferences, attract regional and international exhibitions and conferences, enhance partnership between the public and private sectors, stimulate the local economy and attract foreign investments.
The decision was issued on September 29.
Meanwhile, the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre has announced that it is organising a series of MICE events in the last quarter of 2022, which it expects will attract over 300,000 tourists.
