Asyad ship rescues 19 from sinking vessel off Indian coast

2 Oct 2022

Muscat – An Asyad Group ship, in cooperation with Indian Coast Guard, rescued 19 people from MT Parth after it sank off the Indian coast of Ratnagiri recently.

The vessel set sail from the city of Mangalore in the Indian state of Karnataka, for the Port of Khor Fakkan near the Emirate of Sharjah’s eastern seaboard and sank 41 nautical miles west of the coast of Ratnagiri.

A statement issued by ONA said the Asyad Group’s container ship MV Wadi Bani Khalid, in cooperation with the Indian Coast Guard, rescued the crewmembers of MT Parth as it sank.
Trouble for MT Parth began when its crew realised that the 102m vessel, with a cargo of 3,911 tonnes of bitumen, was listing towards it right.

Despite their best efforts, the crew was unable to stabilise the ship. The Indian Coast Guard was alerted and ICGS Sujeet, an offshore patrol vessel from Goa, was tasked with assisting MT Parth. International Safety Net and NAVTEX warnings were relayed to alert other merchant vessels in the area and MV Wadi Bani Khalid was directed to assist MT Parth.

“After we received the distress call, we headed towards the sinking ship and lowered our rescue boat. We rescued the stricken ship’s crewmembers after they were asked to evacuate,” the captain of MV Wadi Bani Khalid said.
