Portion of Rusayl-Bidbid road to be opened in November: Ministry

1 Oct 2022 By

Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) is all set to open a portion of the Rusayl-Bidbid road in November following the completion of half of the ongoing expansion work recently.

H E Khamis bin Mohammed al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport in the Ministry, said that with the 50 per cent of the Rusayl-Bidbid road expansion project completed, the ministry seeks to open part of the road during the month of November.

The entire project, however, is expected to be complete by the third quarter of 2023, he added.

Talking about the Sharqiyah Expressway project and Adam-Haima-Thumrait dual carriageway, the undersecretary informed that the works for both the projects have been withdrawn from the contractor. “The ministry is currently working on the re-tendering of the two projects.”

In July last year, the ministry had started the work for the expansion of the Rusayl-Bidbid road.

The 27km long project will have pedestrian bridges and tunnels, and rainwater drainage canals along the road starting from the Rusayl-Nizwa interchange on Muscat Expressway to the Sharqiyah Expressway interchange in Bidbid.

The expansion will upgrade the road to four lanes on each side.
