Muscat – Oman Fisheries Company has signed a commercial fishing agreement for Yellowfin Tuna with Ecuador-based Transmarina, which is one of the leading fishing companies in South America.

‘In continuation of the company’s efforts to develop its fleet of modern commercial fishing vessels, we are pleased to announced our shareholders that a partnership terms agreement has been signed with Transmarina, an Ecuador-based company. The vessel is equipped with a freezing capacity of -40ºC to maintain the quality of the fish,’ Oman Fisheries Company said in a disclosure submitted to the Muscat Stock Exchange.

In the initial stage the Transmarina vessel will target 500 metric tonnes of Yellowfin Tuna using long-liner fishing method, Oman Fisheries Company said.

It said, ‘Oman Fisheries Company will prepare, process, value add and distribute and export Yellowfin Tuna in the local and international markets. The company is finalising the necessary procedures with the local competent authorities.’

Transmarina is the only company in South America that maintains a cold chain at -50ºC, this ensures that the company’s processed products maintain the freshness, texture, and flavour.

In May this year, Oman Fisheries Company also signed a commercial fishing agreement with Irish company Atlantic Dawn, one of the leading firms specialising in catching small pelagic fish.

As per the agreement, Atlantic Dawn will bring small pelagic fishing vessel targeting 30,000 metric tonnes of small pelagic.

Atlantic Dawn specialises in catching pelagic fish – abundant shoaling species such as herring, mackerel and sardines that swim in open seas.
