Initiative launched to boost green economy in Buraimi

Muscat – With an aim to create new jobs and stimulate the economy, the Office of the Governor of Buraimi launched the Green Economy Initiative on Thursday.

An official at the Governor’s Office informed that the initiative aims to encourage and develop Buraimi in the field of green research and technology, sharing ideas and technical solutions that help overcome challenges, promoting ideas for investors, and creating new job opportunities based on the green economy.

“It also aims to find practical solutions that will support the development and employment of green technologies and promote the use of environmentally friendly technologies for a low-carbon future,” he said.

A green economy, the official added, is an economy that aims at reducing environmental risks and ecological imbalances for sustainable development without degrading the environment.

“The initiative targets the private and public sectors, individuals, thinkers, academicians and researchers, both Omanis and residents. It will focus on diverse sectors including, agriculture, food security, renewable energy, environment, safe disposal of waste, water resources, minerals, mining, public health, tourism, cultural heritage, building and construction, and sustainable transportation.”

According to the official, the launch of the initiative is in line with Oman Vision 2040, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the strategy of urban development for the Governorate of Buraimi,

About the efforts of the Governor’s Office, he said, “It has launched an electronic platf-orm, creating a direct channel of communication with various segments of society to receive ideas and participate in finding constructive solutions on a number of aspects of interest to society.”

The office floated 17 tenders recently to develop the wilayats of Buraimi.
