RO3mn pact inked for Phase II of Sur Public Park

Muscat – Oman Liquefied Natural Gas (Oman LNG), in cooperation with the Office of the Governor of South Sharqiyah, signed an agreement worth RO3mn for the second phase of the Sur Public Park on Sunday.

An official in the Governorate of South Sharqiyah said, “The project aims to be an outlet for the people of the governorate to relax, provide investment opportunities for Omani youth, support owners of small and medium enterprises, and enhance economic and tourist activities in the governorate. The park will also be an attractive destination for visitors and residents.’

According to the official, the project was designed taking into account high standards of sustainability and will include many facilities, such as green spaces, children’s play areas, walkways, open theatre, area to hold events, butterfly garden, public library, sports fields, and a lake with a sidewalk, in addition to mobile carts for productive families.

Commenting on the signing, Hamed al Naamany, CEO of Oman LNG, said, “We feel privileged to pursue this project. It will provide opportunities for SMEs to invest and grow new businesses and a community for recreation. It is an environment-friendly project that will raise awareness of nature-based carbon offset and enhance tourism infrastructure in South Sharqiyah.”

According to Oman LNG, the project is aligned with the ‘People and Society’ pillar of Oman 2040 Vision, which aims to develop the health aspect of society.

Additionally, it addresses family and community wellbeing and health objectives of the pillar. ‘This initiative will also advance the company’s effort to boost its environmental performance.’

The agreement builds on earlier support wherein Oman LNG funded detailed consultancy services for the design of the park, taking into consideration several important factors to accommodate the needs of the local community.

Since inception, Oman LNG has strived to finance diverse recreational and tourism projects in the sultanate, South Sharqiyah in particular.
