Adam fish market to be ready by July 2023

Muscat – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR), in cooperation with Petroleum Development Oman, is constructing a fish market in the wilayat of Adam in Dakhliyah.

Yahya bin Khalfan al Hadidi, director of MAFWR’s Fish Markets Regulatory Department, said, “The market is being built on an area of 920sqm and includes 14 fish display and sale tables, hall for cutting fish with seven tables, waiting hall for customers, café, special hall for auction, storage for equipment and a plant for ice production.

According to Hadidi, the market will have central air conditioning, modern drainage, a special room for collecting and storing fish waste, a special platform for loading and unloading fish, and administrative offices for market employees, among other facilities.

He added that 19 per cent of construction work is complete. The market is expected to be ready for launch in July 2023.

“Through the establishment of fish markets, the ministry seeks to provide a healthy and comfortable environment for sellers and consumers, raise the quality of products offered, increase consumer satisfaction, provide additional job opportunities for citizens, and supply nearby fish shops and markets their requirement of fish products.”

In partnership with Petroleum Development Oman, MAFWR is also currently building markets in the wilayat of Mudhaibi in North Sharqiyah, Bahla in Dakhliyah, Yanqul in Dhahirah, Rustaq in South Batinah, and Shaleem and Hallaniyat Islands in Dhofar.
