Muscat – To support students of social security and low-income families, Quriyat Charity Team has distributed 1,400 school bags in the wilayat.
Operating under the umbrella of the Committee for Social Development in the Ministry of Social Development in Quriyat, the group comprises 11 board members and more than 112 volunteers.
Started in 2011, Quriyat Charity Team has several charitable initiatives. Speaking to Muscat Daily, Ahmed Rashid al Balushi, chairman of the Finance Committee of the group, said, “We launched the campaign to distribute school bags on August 15. The group, in cooperation with the Zakat Committee in Quriyat, completed distribution of 1,400 school bags to students of needy families registered with it and the committee on Tuesday. The bags were packed with necessary school supplies.”
The group also distributed food baskets and iftar meals among needy families last Ramadan. “Additionally, we distribute clothes and gifts on Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha,” Balushi added, thanking all the individuals and companies that have supported the group in conducting its activities.
“The group aims to achieve social solidarity among community members to help poor families. We strive to meet the urgent and permanent needs of families with limited income in Quriyat through numerous programmes that raise their standard of living.”
The group is currently running several charity programmes in cooperation with government organisations.
“We have received support from many people and want to cooperate with other volunteers and communities in Quriyat to help needy families. We will continue to create a strong financial position for the group and arrange funds and food packages from a variety of sources to implement our initiatives,” Balushi added.
