Muscat – Omani officials hosted a high-level delegation from Mexico on Thursday visiting to look into the possibility of hosting Mexican fans in Oman expected to visit the region for the FIFA World Cup matches in Doha, Qatar, later this year.
H E Sheikh Khalifa Ali al Harthy, Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs in the Foreign Ministry, received Alfonso Zegbe Camarena, Executive Director for Strategy and Public Diplomacy in the Foreign Ministry of Mexico.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed aspects of bilateral cooperation in various fields, ‘especially the possibility of the sultanate hosting fans of the Mexican football team, which is going to participate in the World Cup in Doha,’ the Foreign Ministry stated.
Regional and international issues of common interest were also discussed. The meeting was attended by several officials from both sides.
H E Salim bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, also received Camarena and his accompanying delegation on Thursday to review the facilities Oman has to offer fans attending World Cup matches in Doha.
The two sides reviewed the arrangements Oman is making, including preparations to screen World Cup matches for fans at different locations on large screens, especially in Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, in addition to the availability of the hotel facilities.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has stated that the national carrier Oman Air will operate 48 Match Day Shuttle flights between Muscat and Doha from November 21 to December 3 facilitating World Cup match ticket holders to fly to Doha and return to Muscat on the same day.
Return Match Day Shuttle flig-hts can be booked via the Oman Air website with prices starting from RO49 for Economy Class and RO155 for Business Class. Fares include fees, taxes, airport charges and hand baggage allowance, a press release stated.
