Muscat – The Ministry of Finance has formed a joint committee with the State Audit Institution to enhance the role of internal auditing and monitoring at units of the state’s administrative apparatus.

The new panel will also activate a human resources development plan and set up a comprehensive monitoring system.

The joint committee will take steps to enhance the capabilities of employees of internal audit units by organising training programmes, and raise level of control over public spending and revenue collection.

It will also propose recommendations to grant internal audit departments complete autonomy, so that they can better exercise powers related to functional aspects.

The committee aims to train 900 employees in internal audit units and other civil departments. The overall objective is to regulate financial control measures, carry out projects in accordance with approved plans and legal procedures and raise Oman’s status in global indices on governance and institutional performance.
