Moderate rains expected in weekend

Muscat – Moderate and isolated rains with chances of thunderstorms are expected to lash in the weekend at areas of Muscat, Al Batinah and Sharqiya. The region of Al Wusta and Al Hajar mountains are also likely to witness thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. This shall also decrease the temperature by a few degrees.

Speaking about the weather, a senior official from the Oman Meteorology said, “The rains are due to the low pressure in the Arabian Sea; and it is a normal happening of the year. Due to this the temperature will also be effected around the country. In Muscat the maximum and minimum temperature will be 35 degrees and 29 degrees respectively.” He added that the visibility will be very less in the coastal areas, mainly South West Dhofar.

“Even the sea waves height for the next few days will be over four meres and it will be windy in the seas; hence it is not recommended to venture out,” he said.

The Civil Aviation Authority alerts all to take precautions during thunderstorms stay away from the warning areas and to avoid low laying areas. In addition stay alerted to the status of sea and take action to avoid rough sea.
