Muscat – The latest weather charts and analyses of the National Early Warning Centre indicate a low pressure originating in India will result in rain over large parts of the sultanate from Monday.
In a weather alert, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said that there are chances of thunderstorms and rain of varying intensity over the Al Hajar Mountains on Monday, specifically the mountainous areas in the governorates of North Batinah, Buraimi, Dhahirah, Dakhliyah, South Batinah, North Sharqiyah and South Sharqiyah.
The low pressure is also expected to affect the plains and deserts of Dhahirah and Dakhliyah.
The northern part of the country will experience the effects of the low pressure on Tuesday and Wednesday. ‘The weather disturbance is expected to bring about heavy rain in the governorates of South Sharqiyah, Muscat and South Batinah.’
The impact of the low pressure may extend gradually to cover the governorates of North Sharqiyah, Dakhliyah, North Batinah, Dhahirah, Buraimi and Musandam.
During the peak of the low pressure, rainfall will range between 30mm to 80mm, causing wadis to overflow. Showers accompanied by hail and active downdraft winds measuring 40-80kmph may result in moving of unstable objects, CAA stated.
The state of the sea will be rough along most of the coastal areas with maximum wave height of 4m.
