President Sisi’s visit will strengthen relations with Oman: Egyptian envoy

Muscat – President Abdel Fattah el Sisi of the Arab Republic of Egypt arrived in Muscat on Monday, opening a new chapter in the bilateral ties of the two countries.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Khalid Abdul Halim Radi, Ambassador of Egypt to Oman, said, “President Sisi’s visit comes within the framework of developing relations with Oman. The visit will consolidate the well-established relations between Oman and Egypt, besides supporting the existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.”

President Sisi and His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik will discuss several issues of concern to the two countries. The agenda includes topics on strengthening economic and political relations, and regional and global issues of common interest. “This visit is a qualitative leap between the two countries, which dates back thousands of years,” said Radi.

On the economic relations between the two countries, he said, “Trade relations have witnessed significant development in the past years.”

The volume of trade between the two countries grew to RO205.8mn in 2021 from RO99.7mn in 2020. A total of 744 Egyptian companies invested in Oman in 2020 a total capital of US$1.856bn, which has encouraged both Egyptian and Omani investors to further boost investments.

“Oman has created an attractive investment environment for investors from around the world in accordance with the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. Such Royal Directives have increased the development process considerably in Oman. The sultanate has advanced thanks to wise policies and cooperation with all countries of the world.”

In reference to people-to-people contact, he said, “Every Egyptian has love and respect for the Omani people. I believe Egyptian-Omani relations will witness more cooperation and progress in the coming years.”

On political front, Radi noted that Oman has always worked on building consensus between the two countries and has supported Egypt on several regional and international issues.
