Council of Ministers, Shura discuss march of comprehensive development

Muscat – The Council of Ministers and Majlis A’Shura held a joint meeting on Tuesday under the patronage of H H Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, and H E Khalid bin Hilal al Ma’awali, Chairman of Majlis A’Shura.

The meeting was convened as stipulated in the Basic Law of the State and the Council of Oman Law. ‘These meetings provide support to the constant cooperation among all state institutions to frame joint objectives that ensure highest performance in the implementation of socioeconomic plans and programmes,’ stated ONA.

At the outset of the meeting, H H Sayyid Fahd commended the role of the Majlis A’Shura in performing its responsibilities to enhance the march of comprehensive development. He also affirmed that the government prioritises proposals of the shura that aim to achieve further development in sectors as per priorities of each governorate.

The meeting also affirmed that the government attaches much importance to the current situation as it requires collaboration of efforts to face the challenges resulting from global economic crises and their repercussions on economies worldwide.

The government’s support to the shura’s role is top priority. ‘The Majlis A’Shura is a partner with the government to carry out the national action plan through the attendance of the ministers in its sessions to discuss progress of project implementation, deliver ministerial statements about work progress in the government sector and respond to requests made by the shura to host government officials for discussions.’

The Council of Ministers instructed governors to hold periodic meetings with shura members to reply to their inquiries, receive their proposals and brief them on matters related to services and municipalities of governorates.

The meeting reviewed topics on its agenda, including discussions during sessions of the Joint Coordination Ministerial Committee. Other topics included enhancing partnership between the Council of Ministers and Majlis A’Shura, review of government plans on diversification of income and augmenting production to support the national economy.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to activate the role of the Joint Coordination Ministerial Committee and continue exerting maximum efforts to serve this dear country that enjoys peace and stability, thanks to the enlightened leadership.
