Muscat – Oman Chromite Company has signed an agreement with Minerals Development Oman (MDO) for joint exploration and prospection of chromite ore in two exploration sites located at the Governorates of Al Batinah North and Al Buraimi.

Both companies confirmed the signing of the exploration agreement through their tweets on Thursday.

Last year Oman Chromite Company achieved the highest production quantity in its history. The company produced 45,194 tonnes chromite ore during 2021 compared to a production quantity of 10,597 tonnes in 2020, a sharp increase of 426 per cent.

The increase in production was achieved as a result of the company’s efforts in the development of its exploration and mining operations and as a result of the start of work in the Mahrah mine, for which the mining license was obtained in June 2021, Oman Chromite Company said in its yearly financial report.

Oman Chromite Company in its report had noted that the decrease in the amount of its strategic ore reserve remains the biggest challenge for the company’s future.
