Muscat – Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has expressed his delight in visiting Oman and meeting His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
President Raisi affirmed that his talks with His Majesty the Sultan laid emphasis on the necessity of taking steps to develop relations between the two countries in economic, commercial and tourism fields further.
In an interview with Oman TV, President Raisi reiterated that His Majesty the Sultan is pursuing the approach espoused by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said in consolidating Omani-Iranian relations.
The president described relations between the two countries “centuries-old bonds that are deeply engrained in memory” and that “this visit constitutes a point of transformation towards wider horizons of cooperation between the two countries”.
He said Oman and Iran boast of strong confidence and a unique experience that give impetus to robust cooperation on a number of regional and international issues.
In the interview, the president touched on matters discussed during meetings held by Omani officials with their Iranian counterparts, notably economic cooperation and means of resolving difficulties faced by the business community on either side.
He conveyed the Iranian people’s interest to invest in Oman, expand relations and develop commercial exchange.
“There is a proposal to establish a commercial office to overcome difficulties and present investment opportunities for businessmen in the two countries,” President Raisi said.
He also pointed out that Oman and Iran agree that dialogue is the sole means of resolving disputes in the region.
On Yemen, the president explained that the solution to the crisis lay in negotiations among Yemenis themselves.
