Muscat, Oman – Talented youngster Abdullah al Rawahi is aiming a podium finish at the Jordan International Rally, the fourth round of Middle East Rally Championship, to be held from May 19 to 21.
Al Rawahi, driving a Skoda Fabia R5, and his Jordanian co-driver Atta Al Hamood are currently ranked third in MERC standings after their early retirement due to technical problems in the Kuwait Rally in March.
The Jordan leg consists of 12 stages alongside the Jordan River and the Dead Sea area, where six stages will be held on Friday and the rest scheduled for Saturday.
Al Rawahi, who is on 54 points, said he would put in his best efforts to come back with a good result from Jordan.
The 25-year Omani, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Youth, Sohar International, and Al Manar Financial Investments and Motel, was hoping that his thorough knowledge of the terrains and stages, the support of his Jordanian base and co-driver Atta Al Hamood, who is a local, would help him put in an impressive performance.
Meanwhile, the other Omani driver Zakaria al Amri will give the rally a miss. Al Amri had registered on the entry list in the beginning, but he suddenly withdrew due to a lack of financing and support.
