Muscat – Royal Oman Police (ROP) successfully defused old projectiles found in a remote mountainous area in Dakhliyah on Thursday.

A statement issued by ROP said, ‘The explosive ordinance disposal team responded to a report of a citizen in possession of old projectiles which were found in an area used for military exercises in Dakhliyah. The area was secured and the safe handling of suspicious objects was completed by the explosive ordnance disposal team,’ it stated.

On April 18, two students died in Nizwa and preliminary investigations indicated that they were tampering with unknown objects, suspected to be very old projectiles lying in a mountainous area, which led to an explosion. Investigations are ongoing to find out the circumstances of the accident.

ROP cautioned all against tampering with suspicious objects, and to report these immediately to the nearest police station or call the Police Operations Centre on 9999.
