Muscat – Muscat Municipality carried out an inspection campaign to curb street vending activities in the wilayat of Seeb.
In a statement on Tuesday, the civic body, said, ‘As part of our efforts to reduce the negative phenomena of random sales on the roads and streets of the wilayat of Seeb, Muscat Municipality confiscated around 1,000kg of fish and issued seven health violation notices against street vendors.’
These measures come after receiving repeated reports about the spread of vendors in the areas of Sur Al Hadid and Hail, who sell fish on the streets in unhygienic conditions.
An MAFWR official, said, ‘According to Decision No 312/2014, it is illegal to sell fish outside markets and ports specified by the ministry.’
“Selling fish on the streets can be hazardous to the environment and human health as vendors throw fish waste on the streets. Also, selling fish outside the areas specified by the ministry for selling fish, negatively impacts sellers who abide by the rules,” the official explained.
