7 Mar 2022 By

Muscat – To spread awareness on commercial fraud, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has launched several campaigns to combat the practice in the sultanate.

On Monday, the Consumer Protection Department in South Sharqiyah Governorate carried out an inspection and awareness campaign in auto parts stores in Masirah. The campaign aimed to ensure the quality of auto spare parts and their compliance with the specifications and standards approved in the sultanate.

Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry in North Batinah Governorate, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Consumer Protection in the governorate, also held a symposium on Monday titled ‘Commercial fraud and its impact on the consumer and the merchant’.

The symposium was in line with an innovative media plan to enhance consumer awareness on the risks of commercial fraud and to enable suppliers to stay away from any practices that could be considered commercial fraud.

As part of the campaign, the Directorate of Consumer Protection in North Batinah Governorate inaugurated a mobile exhibition of fake and original goods with the aim of spreading societal awareness in combating commercial fraud also on Monday.

In February 2022, CPA launched a campaign against commercial fraud, titled ‘Stick to Genuine Products’. The campaign aimed to increase awareness about the unified GCC Anti-Commercial Fraud Law, acquainting consumers with the commercial practices that are considered commercial fraud and acquainting suppliers and traders with the punishment for commercial fraud.
