141 people donate blood to save one patient: DBBS

Muscat – As many as 141 blood donors contributed to saving the life of one patient only in past a few days, according to the Central Blood Bank in Bausher.

Statement issued by by the Central Blood Bank in Bausher( DBBS ) , said, ( during the past days, 141 blood donors contributed to saving the life of only one sick case. The patient has transfused a large number of blood units (red blood cells, platelets and plasma).

The center indicated that some sick cases require large amounts of blood, such as premature babies who need from 1 to 4 blood units, Caesarean section deliveries from two to eleven, hereditary blood diseases 1 to 3 and open heart surgeries 2 to 6 and car accidents 4 to 30 and cancer diseases need from two to 6.

Those interested can donate blood from Saturday to Thursday from 8am to 8 pm, and on Friday from 3pm to 8pm, at the Central Blood Bank.

Blood banks in Oman need about 5,000 units of blood per month, while the Central Blood Bank in Bausher needs 100-120 donors a day to meet the requirements of health institutions.
