Muscat – Eng Rida Juma al Saleh, chairman of Board of Directors of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), has said that Omani Industry Day celebrations serve as an incentive as well as motivation for industrialists to develop the sector, which is one of the priority sectors in supporting the economic diversification plan of the sultanate.
He pointed out that partnership with the private sector starts with the role entrusted to it in stimulating economic growth. The government’s economic stimulus plan includes several incentives related to taxes and improving the business environment, investment and support for small and medium enterprises.
Saleh added that the role of OCCI includes enabling the private sector to contribute to the advancement of the industrial sector. OCCI also studies legislation, regulations, plans and policies related to the industrial sector, and forwards suggestions and recommendations to competent authorities.
“This is in addition to studying and researching the problems and issues presented to the committee by industrialists, including proposed draft laws related to the industrial sector, and proposing appropriate solutions in this regard, besides conducting field visits to industrial projects to identify the challenges they face,” Saleh said.
He further added that the chamber’s role in supporting the industrial sector includes promoting Oman-made products by organising and holding exhibitions locally and abroad. Additionally, it focuses on finding suitable ways of supporting industrial projects for national products to compete globally.
