Contract registrations for expat workers extended until August 31

Muscat – Much to the relief of many and to ease down the rush, the Ministry of Labour (MoL) announced on Thursday that it has extended the deadline for completion of registration of expatriates’ work contracts until August 31, 2022.

In a statement, MoL said, “An additional period for business owners and institutions would be granted to complete the registration of work contracts for expat workforce until August 31, 2022. This is in light of the developments resulting from the spread of COVID-19 and the precautionary measures taken.”

It added that the ministry business owners and institutions need to complete the procedures for registering work contracts before the end of the aforementioned period.

In the past weeks, crowds of confused and excited expatriates have been seen at Royal Oman Police’s civil status offices queuing up to generate their unique six-digit PIN number which is required, among other purposes, to renew employment contracts online.

In keeping with a MoL deadline, which was earlier set for December 31 and later extended to January 31, the news of further extension is a relief for many. “An extra period given to institution owners to complete the registration of work contracts for their expatriate workforce until August 31, 2022 is a welcome one because of of the companies have not done so,” said a Public relations Officer of one of the companies in Muscat.
