Shared positive outlook to power India-Oman relationship

26 Jan 2022

On the proud occasion of the 73rd Republic Day of India, I extend my warm greetings and heartiest felicitations to all members of the distinguished Indian community living in the Sultanate of Oman. I also take this opportunity to extend, on behalf of the Government and people of India, best wishes for peace, progress and prosperity to His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik and the friendly people of Oman.

Since my arrival in Oman in October 2021, I have experienced extraordinary warmth and goodwill towards India in all my interactions. I had the honour to present my credentials to His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik quite early after my arrival and convey greetings on behalf of Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. In all my subsequent interactions with ministers and senior government officials, not to mention the ever smiling and gentle people of Oman, I have sensed a genuine desire to further enhance the strong edifice of India-Oman relations.

India and Oman are natural partners, joined by the blue waters of the Arabian sea, sharing millennia old contacts and unique people-to-people bonds of trust and friendship. The relationship has evolved into a multifaceted strategic partnership under the wise leadership of both the countries. Robust defence and security cooperation and growing economic ties have added new pillars to the relationship. Given the triple advantages of proximity, connectivity and familiarity, there exists great potential for further enhancing bilateral trade and deepening investment cooperation for mutual benefit.

Even as the world continues to suffer the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the strong momentum of cooperation between both the countries remains buoyant. India remained a reliable supplier of essential commodities to Oman during the past year, while Oman became the first country in the region to approve made-in-India COVID-19 vaccine – COVAXIN, in a sign of close cooperation between both the countries during COVID-19.

India accords high priority to its strategic partnership with Oman and remains committed to further increasing cooperation in existing as well as new areas. Government of Oman’s push towards economic diversification under its ‘Vision 2040’ provides an excellent platform for deepening India-Oman ties and taking them to the next level. As Oman seeks to realise its ‘Vision 2040’ and India marches ahead on the path towards all-round growth and development, the opportunities for enhanced cooperation are abundant.

I firmly believe that India will be a reliable and trusted partner of Sultanate of Oman to realise the objectives of Oman ‘Vision 2040’. New ideas, new technology, youthful energy and a shared positive outlook towards future will power the India-Oman relationship into the future. The Embassy of India looks forward to working closely with the Government and people of Oman as well as the vibrant Indian diaspora towards this objective.
