RO20mn allocation for governorates to boost development


Muscat – The Ministry of Economy has appreciated the Royal Directive of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to increase the financial allocation for each governorate in the Governorates Development Programme to RO20mn.

A statement issued on Wednesday said, ‘The Ministry of Economy confirms that the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to increase the amount allocated to the Governorates Development Programme from RO10mn to RO20mn for each governorate during the years of the current Five-Year Plan 2021-2025 will support the implementation of strategic programmes for the priority development of governorates and sustainable cities. It will be a catalyst for the competitive comparative advantages of the governorates and enhance development.

‘We are pleased to share with you the strategic priorities of the Development of Governorates and Sustainable Cities Programme within the economy and development themes of the Five-Year Plan 2021-2025.’

H E Dr Nasser Rashid al Maawali, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, praised His Majesty the Sultan’s Royal Directive to increase the financial allocation for the development of the governorates’ economies. The move is also expected to give impetus to the government’s strategic decentralisation shift.

“The Governorates Development Programme will contribute to achieving comprehensive and balanced regional development and enhance the utilisation of natural and human resources in each governorate,“ H E Maawali said.
