Muscat – To limit the spread of COVID-19 among school students, the Ministry of Education has cancelled the 51st National Day celebrations in all schools. The Ministry of Social Development too has asked people to avoid holding special events on the occasion.
An official in the Ministry of Education, said, “The Ministry has issued a statement to all the director generals in the governorates to cancel the National Day celebrations in schools.”
He added that the ministry has received a circular from the concerned authorities to ban holding celebrations for the National Day. “The celebrations cannot be conducted with restriction on gatherings and socialising. The ministry confirmed that these celebrations could lead to the spread of COVID-19 and an increase infections.”
The ministry stated that all schools should adhere to precautionary measures, to stabilise the epidemiological situation in the sultanate. “It also requested all schools to abide by this decision and take the necessary measures in this regard,” the official added.
The Ministry of Social Development has called on people to avoid holding special events and celebrations on the occasion of the 51st National Day.
A statement issued by the ministry, said, “The ministry urges citizens and residents not to hold any activities to celebrate the 51st National Day to prevent the spread of COVID-19.’
