Hospitality academy opens with Swiss collaboration

Muscat – Muscat Hospitality Academy (MHA) has partnered with the EHL Group, Switzerland – a leading source of hospitality education and advisory services in the world – to open its first Vocational Education and Training/VET by EHL licensed training institute in Oman.

MHA, which is part of Heart of Hospitality (HOH), in partnership with the EHL Group, will set the standards in excellence for vocational education and training in hospitality, offering the next generation an opportunity to build their career in the hospitality industry, both within Oman and globally, stated a press release.

The academy will initially focus on various programmes in four key specialisations – culinary, service, rooms and hotel administration. The programmes are designed to cover almost 80 per cent of the job skill demand of the industry. All curriculum and course materials are developed in Switzerland by the EHL Group and delivered by VET by EHL approved industry experts.

The academy was inaugurated on Sunday under the patronage of H E Salim al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism. “It is quite a significant venture and an important addition to the hospitality training sector. All the new tourism related projects need qualified manpower to run the facilities and institutions like this can facilitate the manpower needs of the sector,” said H E Mahrouqi.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Xia Cai, managing partner at HOH, said, “We are very proud of the fact that MHA has already been very well received by the hospitality sector in Oman, with commitment from many four- and five-star brands, which includes more than 370 employment opportunities for Omani nationals upon successful completion of our VET by EHL programmes.

“We are presenting a fantastic opportunity to Omanis who will receive unique world-class vocational educational training by hospitality industry experts, incorporating rigorous practical internships to ensure that they are equipped to be ready for the job market from day one of graduation.“

She added that MHA will be running open days between November 14 and 16. “It is all about selecting the right candidates to suit the work profile. These courses are for freshers who are passionate about the hospitality industry and for those already in the hospitality sector and wish to upgrade their skills and climb up the ladder.”

Aman Aditya Sachdev, director and regional head – Middle East, South Asia & Myanmar – EHL Advisory Services, said, “On behalf of the EHL Group, it is my pleasure to welcome MHA to our distinguished and select global network of hospitality institutions delivering the VET by EHL programmes.”
