10 Nov 2021 By ANIRBAN RAY

Muscat – The Government of Japan announced conferring the prestigious Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star on H E Salem Nasser al Maskri, former secretary general of the Higher Education Council of Oman. The event was held on Wednesday at the residence of H E Kobayashi Toshinori, Ambassador of Japan.

Japan announced awarding the order on November 3, 2020, in recognition of H E Maskri’s outstanding contribution to promote friendly relations and mutual understanding between Japan and Oman in the field of education, particularly academic exchange. The presentation ceremony was delayed due to the concerns over COVID-19.

Speaking at the ceremony, H E Toshinori said, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude and respect for H E Maskri on behalf of the government of Japan. It is an honour approved by the Emperor himself and one can see Japan’s state stamp on the certificate. The valuable medal and certificate needed to be delivered here with the respect it demands. Hence I had to ask a diplomatic courier and not a private one to bring these across from Tokyo. I am very privileged to finally present the honour in the presence of other distinguished guests.”

Accepting the order, H E Maskri said that Oman and Japan have share good trade and cultural relations since decades despite being separated by 8,000km. He added that opportunities of cooperation in the field of science and technology between the two countries continue to grow.
