Announcing the competition at a press conference on Saturday, Dr J Retnakumar, founder and chairman of Bhavalaya, said, “This is the first ever online drama competition in Oman. It is an ode to the late Girija Baqer who devoted her life to art and culture. She inspired, motivated and groomed several young artists, singers, theatre actors and writers. Our competition is a tribute to her immense contribution to the field of arts which brings mankind closer.”
He added that the competition also aims to provide a platform for artists to express their thoughts and creativity.
The competition is open to all citizens and residents of Oman. The plays must be of ten-minute duration shot with any device as long as the video and audio are clear and comprehensible. There is no limit on the number of actors and technicians involved.
Elaborating on the rules of the competition, Prakash V, coordinator of the event, said, “The format is one-act plays, which means that the entire story must be told in one take with no edits, cuts or curtain falls. Controversial issues and subjects must be avoided and judges have the right to reject an entry if it is deemed unfit.”
The plays can have background music provided it is live without edits. “It is advisable to make the audio as clear as possible,” Prakash added.
