Muscat – The sultanate will celebrate its National Day in a gala event at Oman Pavilion in the ongoing Expo 2020 Dubai on November 21. The event will begin with welcoming Royal Navy of Oman’s Shabab Oman II, which will set sail from Sultan Qaboos Port for the United Arab Emirates on November 7.
The ship will carry students from across the Gulf Cooperation Council and the world as part of a cultural exchange.
Speaking about the celebration, Alya al Hosni, director of Oman Vision 2040 in the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and the National Day Celebration Programme at Expo 2020 Dubai, said, “It will consist of three main events, starting with the official delegation of the government receiving Shabab Oman II, followed by an event hosted by Expo 2020’s organising committee to celebrate our National Day. Finally, there will be a formal evening reception to showcase Omani culture to the world.”
There will also be a fashion event showcasing creations of Omani designers with an objective to reach out to international audiences.
The announcement of the National Day celebration programme was made at an event held in Grand Millennium Muscat on Tuesday, which was attended by Mohsin Khamis al Balushi, adviser in the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and the sultanate’s General Commissioner at Expo 2020.
The Omani Pavilion has been one of the most popular ones at Expo 2020 with more than 250,000 visitors of various nationalities, a Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion statement said. More than 300 SMEs are taking part in it and the next five months will witness several business events, workshops and conference for small and medium enterprises and investors.
Hussein Marzouq Abdullah al Harrasi, deputy director of SME Department in Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, “We have send several SME delegations to Expo 2020 and have more lined up. It is a great opportunity for all of us to showcase the best of our country.”
