Preparations for 51st National Day celebrations in full swing

Muscat – The 51st National Day preparations are proceeding at full steam. A committee formed to look after the preparations has started work installing lights at select spots in the city.

The Supreme Committee for National Day Celebrations, which is in charge of programmes and decorations, has decided to keep street decorations ‘simple and meaningful’.

To mark National Day, colourful lights will be put up from Old Muscat to Grand Mosque and Omani flags will be placed from the Al Bustan Roundabout to Barka Roundabout, an official of the committee said.

“There will be 30-minute fireworks displays in Amerat and Al Khoudh in Muscat and Salalah in Dhofar on November 18,” the official said.

He added that decorative pieces have already been installed at a few locations in Muscat, including Royal Opera House Muscat and Grand Mosque.

“The National Day decorative lights will be tested next week. The lights will be switched on November 18 and are likely to stay till the end of the month. There will be more decorations this year, with installations in the side streets of Sultan Qaboos Street, major malls in Muscat and along Al Mawaleh Street,” the official said.
